  1. The presence prison

I relate with this great post by Brad Frost a lot. The main thing I was looking for when I was looking for a new job last year was proper flexibility.

I’m totally not productive in a 9-5 office environment, so I found working in-house excruciating. Now, I work reasonably “normal” hours, but you’ll often find me working on my own stuff to “warm up”, then work on day job stuff ‘til later in the evening after I’ve had dinner with my family.

  2. A Family day at the Wildlife Park

We’ve been to the Cotswold Wildlife Park today. It’s very possibly our last weekend as a three before the new baby arrives, so we thought we’d take full advantage of the extra day that the bank holiday has brought us.

Brooklyn loves animals, so her mind was blown for 99% of the day. She nearly exploded when a Giraffe got within 6 feet of her.

I nearly exploded when I saw a load of Prairie Dogs. I’m a big fan on those, although I prefer to call them “Pamsters” (name courtesy of Sarah Drasner).

I also saw a sign that made me upset with its poor spelling and the use of “Expresso” rather than Espresso.

I’ve got a busy week with deadlines coming up, so a nice day out after a very chilling weekend is just what’s needed to start me off in the best possible way.

  3. Watch list

An ever-updating list of things for me to watch. I love documentaries so please, if you stumble across something awesome, hit me up on email or Mastodon.

    The list permalink

    • ✅ LEGO House: Home of the Brick - Netflix (trailer)
Verdict: As with everything I watch about LEGO, my mind is blown at the intense level of detail that they go to. A great watch.
    • Icarus - Netflix (trailer)
    • Hannah Gadsby: Nanette - Netflix (trailer)
    • Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee - Netflix (trailer)
    • ✅ Dark Tourist - Netflix (trailer)
Verdict: This was surprisingly great. Definitely worth running though as it’s only 8 short episodes. Some great content and you’ll definitely learn something.
    • City of Gold - YouTube (link)
    • Runnin’ Down a Dream - YouTube (4 hours 😱) (link)
    • 13th - Netflix (trailer)
    • ✅ What Comes Next is the Future - Vimeo (link)
Verdict: Utterly inspiring. A must watch.
    • Hells Angels BBC Documentary from 1973 - Youtube(link)
  4. Writing about non web dev things

Now that I’ve got a personal site that I’m proud of again, I’ll write some non web dev stuff.

Ideas I’ve had so far are a guide to Mastodon for newcomers and one about my discomfort with large tech companies and how there seems to be a cult-like following of them.

More importantly though, I want to tell you all about the surreal world of my kid’s favourite YouTube character, Bob The Train. Here’s a rather odd taster: https://youtu.be/cE3LzPQgQmk

Update: I forgot the actual most important one. I want to write either a whole article or an article series about my top ten favourite albums. Here’s the list for those that may be curious.
